U.S.  Patent Application No. 15/355,824ACTIVATING MITOTIC CHECKPOINT CONTROL MECHANISMS
“This patent describes a method of controlling the duration of cell division by conditionally dimerizing designed fragments of two highly conserved, mitotic proteins. The method, which we call the ‘eSAC’ (ectopic Spindle Assembly Checkpoint) activator, will be useful as a synthetic biology component. We also plan to use it to study the adaptation of the mitotic checkpoint in cancer cell lines, during development, and during aging.”

Juan is a junior in the MCDB program. He has joined the lab to gain experience in working at the bench. Sean is a MSU graduate with a good amount of experience in protein structure. He is joining the protein design side of the lab.

Ajit is back from his 6-month long sabbatical in the Baker lab at the University of Washington. The lab is still here!

Ajit spent six months learning the basics of de novo protein design using the Rosetta suite in the Baker lab, and has come back to UM with many exciting ideas and projects.
