“This patent describes a method of controlling the duration of cell division by conditionally dimerizing designed fragments of two highly conserved, mitotic proteins. The method, which we call the ‘eSAC’ (ectopic Spindle Assembly Checkpoint) activator, will be useful as a synthetic biology component. We also plan to use it to study the adaptation of the mitotic checkpoint in cancer cell lines, during development, and during aging.”
